Scattered items and power-ups improve Trace's attacks and his ability to navigate the world. Players take on the roll of Trace, a scientist tasked with saving an alien world from a mad man. Taking inspiration from Metroid and Contra, Axiom Verge is a side-scroller that focuses on both exploration and combat.
